THE RACE STREET RUN
JULY 5, 2008 - 8:30 AM
4-MILE & 15k

The Episcopal Parish of St. Mark and St. John is renewing a footrace series known as the "Race Street Run". This popular dual race, 4-mile and 15 Kilometer, was be held on July 5, 2008 and will be held on the first Saturday in July in coming years. Beginning in front of the Carbon County Court House in Jim Thorpe's downtown historic district, the race proceedes nearly a mile up the gentle incline of Broadway. The course then makes a right turn onto the former bus road and up a steeper incline to the old Switchback Railroad right-of-way. It continues on this gentle uphill incline (about 100' to the mile) past the borough water treatment plant and back onto Lentz Trail (State Highway). Here at the first water stop, the 4-milers turn around and run back down Lentz Trail and Broadway to the finish line. 15K runners continue on the Switchback to the Mauch Chunk Lake, running through the park, past the second water stop and out the park exit. The race then backtracks along Lentz Trail to the third water stop and down Broadway, a gentle downhill grade, to the finish line in front of historic St. Mark's Episcopal Church on Race Street.
